The Freedom Shield will have you looking for another gear.

A little background: I’m 6′ tall, have a 30” inseam (without shoes or boots), use a stock Roadmaster touring seat on my Springfield, which positions me such that the top edge of the stock Indian windshield is a couple inches below my sight line. With the stock windshield, I was getting buffeting at highway speeds. I added the Indian wind deflectors and they improved things so that I could cruise at 70mph comfortably. After that, the helmet (full face helmet) buffeting would increase significantly. This is what led me to look into flared windshields. I opted the 16” size because: 1) That’s only 1” taller than the stock height. After doing some mockups on my stock shield, I still had the clearance of looking over the shield that I prefer, and 2) I plan on getting a custom seat for the bike and all options I’m considering will raise my sitting height by about 1/2”-3/4” and will keep me in about the same position I’m in now. I also chose to add the Freedom clear wind deflectors to replace my tinted Indian ones. My thoughts on the windshield: It’s about 3/4” taller overall than the stock windshield, is squarer at the top than the “tombstone” shape of the stock Indian which creates about an additional 1.5” of surface area at the top corners. Driving around town, I didn’t really notice too much difference in the windshield or the fork-mounted wind deflectors. However, as soon as I headed onto the highway, I could feel the difference…or more accurately, it’s what I didn’t feel -the turbulence around my head. I prefer to ride w/ the visor up on my full-face helmet but doing so with the stock windshield, I couldn’t cruise too much above 70mph. If it was at all windy, I’d likely have to close it to cruise at 70mph. With the Freedom shield, I can cruise EASILY 80-90mph w/ the visor up and there have been times I’ve thought I needed to shift up only to realize I was already in 6th gear and cruising at 85mph. Hitting 100mph with my visor open is not unusual. I’ve may/may not have done that a few times. 😉 I did a couple of rides back-to-back to compare the Indian wind deflectors to the Freedom version and I did notice there was a little more airflow around the feet which seemed to help move the heat away from the legs. If my Indian deflectors had not been tinted, I’m not sure I would have ordered the Freedom ones, but I wanted clear and as noted below, others had recommended them over the stock versions. Through the years I’ve learned to listen to the advice of others who have experienced similar things that I’m going through. Buying a Freedom Shield is another one of those times. I wanted to enjoy highway cruising without my head feeling like a punching bag and I kept reading about others who have had this experience and then when they bought the windshield, everything improved for them. Now I get to share the wisdom of “just get a Freedom shield and forget about it.” It’s nice to be able to set the cruise control at 80 or 85mph to give your wrist a break and not worry about being bounced all around by the wind during a 300+ mile ride. Placing my hand above my helmet and feeling for the airflow, there’s a good 4” of clearance before I start to feel any kind of wind. I’ve also installed a Cardo system in my helmet and do not have to turn the music up to hear it over the wind noise as there isn’t any. If you’re looking to smooth out your ride, be able to cruise at highway speeds including needing to pass comfortably, ride longer, I highly recommend getting a Freedom Shield and enjoy the ride.

This is definitely a (tall) passenger friendly windshield!

I ordered the 18″ with the hope it would be tall enough to make the ride experience more enjoyable for my wife as the passenger and you did it! I wanted to get some good rides in with it before getting back to you and the delay with replacing the darn speaker pods (2 of the 4 windshield mounting bolts were cross threaded and couldn’t get them out) made it take a bit longer.  The stock and follow on klockwerks windshields gave her nothing but a face full of wind & buffeting. As she is also 6′ tall, I thought it might be impossible to find a windshield tall enough to improve the ride for her. At your recommendation I went with the 18″ Touring and in a light grey tint as I would be looking through it. I was surprised at the quality and durability taking it out of the box, this is a windshield! It was a little interesting to look through the shield vs over it at first, but it works great for me, and the tint is perfect. There is minimal to zero distortion while looking through it which I am very thankful for. As I ride year-round in TN, I am finally looking forward to wintertime riding with the difference this shield makes. After replacing those speaker pods, I took my wife out & about on the backroads up to 60 mph and she loved it! She said it was the most pleasant ride she has had and really appreciates it. We went out and got a highway ride in shortly after and still at those speeds your shield made all the difference! This is definitely a (tall) passenger friendly windshield! Thank you so much and so glad I chose Freedom Shields. I still want to order a shorter shield just for me when I get the chance in the future.  Bike: 2017 Harley Road Glide Ultra

It’s easy to see why Freedom Shields are by far the BEST!

I wanted to reach out and thank you and your team for our new shield. My Wife and I just finished our 1000+ mi. trip to the Adirondack on our “21” Ultra.  The 8” touring model, light grey tint was outstanding. My Wife (5’8”) said the shield was as good if not better than the 10” stock. No buffering at all, even at high speeds. The touring model also took some wind off her shoulders. Additionally, the speakers even sounded clearer and there was very limited resistance passing those 18 wheelers.  At 5’11’’ I was able to see over the 8” by a couple of inches and the light grey tint was not only “practical” when I did look through it but also looked much better than I anticipated. One final note. I was initially concerned about the space/gap on the fairing that I had heard about, in a few other reviews. John, you were spot on 1/16”, not an issue. I don’t know of many companies where you can actually speak directly to the owner and receive a five-year warranty (best in the business) …. Enough said. It’s easy to see why Freedom Shields are by far the BEST!

What a pleasure it is to ride on windy days now.

I just wanted to give you more feedback on the windshield now that I have put a few hundred miles on the bike since installing it. It has been windy here, 20 to 30 mph gusting over 40 and the bike handles so much better with this windshield. The front end used to vibrate in strong wind and the wind noise in my ears was deafening. I wear a short carbon fiber helmet. With the Freedom Shields recurve windshield there is no front-end vibration and no wind noise! What a pleasure it is to ride on windy days now. My gas mileage increased by 3 mpg due to less wind resistance. Thank you again for a truly great product!

This shield is AWESOME!

John, your quick response to my several emails and completely answering all my questions regarding help on getting the right height was 100% spot on.  I have to admit, high quality customer service is nearly a lost art in retail sales, thank you and the team for outstanding service!   This new shield greatly improved the look of my bike, the stock shield was tall about 15 inches, good protection, terrible glare and not a good fit for me.  With my Freedom Shield, I am looking over it, at a proper height, even if I slouch a little.  My wife as the passenger has good wind protection as well, no wind buffeting and a comfortable ride also.  I have to say your quality control folks have eagle vision, I decided to purchase a “blem”, 8″ touring width that was listed for the 2014 touring bikes, I can barely see where, even with the little sticker showing where the “scratch” is located see any issue or problem on this shield.   I could not be more pleased. I will for sure recommend Freedom Shield to anyone who may be looking for a high-quality windshield, a fantastic customer support team and well packaged/shipped products. Thank you all very much!

It doesn’t vibrate like the stock shield

I just installed my new shield.  It is awesome.  I took for a test ride and it’s dead on.  It’s 1.5” lower than the stock shield and works even better.  It doesn’t vibrate like the stock shield.  Customer service is top notch. Packaging is very, very good even though I hate peanuts.  Lol

What a difference it has made!

I just want to say I love my new Scout 22″ Light Grey Tint windshield. The material is noticeably higher quality and thicker than OEM. What a difference it has made! My speed limit comfort with the old OEM was about 55MPH and with this Freedom Shield it is now 70-80 MPH on a Scout!!
